
Michigan native and lawyer Harrison Jeffords, a 26-year old colonel of the 4th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the Union Army of the Potomac, died 150 years ago today at Gettysburg, protecting the U.S flag. At his death, Jeffords became the highest commissioned officer in the Civil War
to die of a bayonet wound. 2000 people attended his funeral in Dexter.
