The Supreme Court this morning announced its decision, 5-4, to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Chief Justice John Roberts, joined by Justices Breyer, Ginsberg, Sotomayor, and Kagan ruled the entire health care law constitutional, including the individual mandate, which the Chief Justice, writing for the majority, characterized as a tax within Congress' constitutional authority.
Justic Kennedy joined Justices Scalia, Alito, and Thomas in the dissent. He began reading the dissent by saying, "In our view, the entire Act before us is invalid in its entirety."
SBM Blog will dig into deeper detail on the various aspects of the decision throughout the day, so stay tuned for more information.
