The Indianapolis Star has a great story on criminal defense lawyer Richard Kammen, who last year convinced a jury in federal court in Detroit to spare the life of convicted murderer Tim O'Reilly. The judge in that case, the Hon. Victoria Roberts, told the Star that Kammen was incredibly skilled during the jury selection process.
Kammen's defense of Al-Nashiri comes in the first death-penalty case to be tried in a military commission under this administration. Among the story's many memorable points, there's this begrudging praise from a prosecutor about what was like to go up against Kammen:
"It was like knowing you were going to have a colonoscopy."
