The Georgia Supreme Court on Tuesday disbarred an attorney found guilty of a number of ethical violations, most notably for accepting $9,000 to file a discrimination case that a federal judge called “the most frivolous and least warranted suit” he had ever seen. Here's the story in the Augusta Chronicle. Here's the order of disbarment.(PDF)
SBM Blog notes this comment from an Augusta Chronicle reader, without attesting to its accuracy:
[The disbarred lawyer in question] was appointed to represent a young man I know for a capital offense. From what I could see he did no research on the case and offered an inadequate defense. The young man is now serving life in jail. The young man did plead guilty then recanted. He probably was guilty, but I believe the man had redeeming values and a life sentence was not appropriate. I believe it would have been a different outcome with a competent lawyer.
