Three men imprisoned for eight years in Viet Nam for the rape of a teenage girl were released on the basis of evidence provided by an acupuncturist to whom one of the prisoners was sent for treatment. She noticed that a small capillary below his ear was not broken, a sign of virginity in traditional Vietnamese medicine. An examination of the other two prisoners found the same result. Letters from the acupuncturist and other hospital officials caused the case to be re-opened.
