The dismal job market for new law school graduates is causing some interesting professional soul-searching. Christine Hurt at The Conglomerate at has this provocative thought: why not make the first year of law school free (shifting the costs to the second two years), or, give unhappy 1Ls the option of ending their studies at the end of one year with reward of a masters degree, rather than walking away empty-handed, or sticking it out for two more years in studies for which they feel unsuited, heading for a professional life that holds little attraction.
