I have recently returned from the State Bar's tour of the Upper Peninsula bar associations, where the President's dominant and heartfelt theme, "Lawyers are really great, ---dammit!," was very well received. President Einhorn demonstrated his dedication to serving the membership by breaking bread with the members of the Gogebic-Ontonagon bar rather than using his two tickets to the 4th game of the Western Division American League championship, thereby missing a whale of a game but making several very good new UP friends instead. And seeing as true fans know that all major league baseball outcomes are determined by the collective, individual decisions of each fan ("Which shirt should I wear for this game?" "Can I get up to get some nachos now or does Martinez need my help at this at-bat?" etc.), you can thank the President of the State Bar of Michigan for the Tigers appearance in yet another American League championship playoff. Don't say that the State Bar has never done anything for you.
Speaking of baseball, a letter posted on the NBC sports Hardball Talk from a Braves fan to his Congressman, has been making the rounds. I offer it here not as an endorsement of its political view but because, when it was read aloud to me, my immediate thought was "I bet a lawyer wrote that." Sure enough.
As the President of the State Bar says, lawyers are great.
