Last-Minute Mississippi Death Row Reprieve Inspires Eyebrow-Raising Dissent
On Tuesday, by an 8-1 vote, the Mississippi Supreme Court issued a terse order staying the execution of Willie Manning just hours before it was scheduled to take place, after the Department of Justice cast doubt on the
scientific value of testimony from FBI experts at the trial in 1994. The stay will allow the FBI to conduct DNA tests on the lone piece of forensic evidence from the trial.
