ABA Journal reports that a Georgetown law school alum is suing for the return of at least $7.5 million in donations to the school because, he says, the school did not follow through on a promise to name a fitness center after him, despite assurances that the outcome of a pending SEC civil action would not be a problem. The donor eventually had to pay a $1 million civil penalty.
The suit says that the law school dean asked the donor to relinquish his naming rights, but he refused, and that the school continued to solicit donations, representing to the donor that the agreement for naming rights would be honored.
