Kwame Kilpatrick was found guilty of racketeering conspiracy, extortion, wire fraud, and mail fraud by a federal jury this morning.
In total, the jury reached a unanimous verdict on 40 of 45 charges brought against three defendants: Kwame Kilpatrick, who faced 30 charges; Bernard Kilpatrick, who faced four; and Bobby Ferguson, who faced 11.
Bobby Ferguson was also found guilty of racketeering conspiracy and extortion. And Bernard Kilpatrick was found guilty of one tax charge.
The more serious charges, including racketeering and mail fraud, carry mandatory 20-year prison sentences.
