The last time he wielded a gavel Cliff Taylor was Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. Since relinquishing his seat to Diane Hathaway four years ago Taylor has played several gavel-less roles, including as counsel at Miller Canfield, professor at Ave Maria, and national speaker on constitutional issues. Taylor's latest assignment, however, as chair of the Board of Directors of Michigan's Mackinac Center for Public Policy, puts the gavel back in his hands. He replaces D. Joseph Olson, a founding member of the Center who has served as chairman for most of the Center’s history and will remain on the board.
