ABA Journal reports that former superstar U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald will prosecute Socrates and two celebrated litigators -- Dan Webb of Winston and Strawn and plaintiffs lawyer Robert A. Clifford -- will defend him, at a fundraiser for the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago on January 31. The Hon. Richard Posner of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals will head a three-judge panel presiding over the reenactment of the 2,400-year-old free speech case. As far as we know, no hemlock will be served. ABA Journal suggests these weblinks for Socrates fans: a website about famous trials hosted by the University of Missouri at Kansas City that discusses the Socrates trial in detail; another UMKC webpage that provides a translation of Plato's version of the apology offered by Socrates at his trial; and a Time magazine recap of the world's top 10 trials that provides a one-paragraph overview.
