The U.S. Supreme Court issued four opinions on Tuesday, each one an 8-1 opinion. Justice Thomas dissented in Smith v. Cain, which overturned a Louisiana murder conviction based on the prosecution's Brady violations. Justice Scalia dissented in Gonzalez v. Thaler, which held that Section 2253(c)(3), concerning a certificate of appealability, is a mandatory but nonjurisdictional rule. And Justice Ginsburg dissented in Minneci v. Pollard, which held that federal inmates can't sue employees of a private prison company for Constitutional violations, and Compu-Credit Corp. v. Greenwood, which held that claims arising under the Credit Repair Organizations Act are subject to arbitration pursuant to a valid arbitration agreement.
