Justice Salim Joubran, the first Arab-Israeli to hold a permanent seat on Israel's Supreme Court, spoke last Tuesday at Cooley Law School-Auburn Hills about the role of the Court in Israel before appearing at a private reception at Miller Canfield in Detroit. Justice Joubran noted that in addition to being the highest appellate court, the Israeli Supreme Court also hears petitions directly from citizens seeking judicial review of government acts. As a result, its justices are the busiest in the world, hearing thousands more cases than their counterparts in Washington, D.C. Presumably, that was one topic of conversation when Justice Joubran dined with five U.S. Supreme Court for lunch at the Supreme Court building last week.
