A new study of the case predictions of 481 U.S. lawyers by a University of California-Irvine psychologist and law professor and other academics shows says that 32% met their goals, 24% exceeded their goals, and 44% were less successful than they predicted they would be. Male attorneys tended to be more overconfident than female attorneys. Details of the survey can be found online in Insightful or Wishful: Lawyers' Ability to Predict Case Outcomes in the May issue of the American Psychological Association's Psychology, Public Policy & Law.
