Law School Deans: "Michigan's Public Defense System is a Failure"

Deans Joan Howarth of MSU College of Law and Robert Ackerman of Wayne State Law School, joined by University of Michigan Law School's Evan Caminker, are now on record in support of HB 5676, the Public Defense Act.  When it comes to public defense in our state," they write, "Michigan's system imposes substantial burdens on younger attorneys, hamstrings more experienced ones, wastes taxpayer dollars, makes government less efficient and fails to meet its constitutional obligations to the accused."
